Gateshead NECA
Part of the North East Council on Addictions Service, which operates
in the Gateshead area. The centre provides a specialist confidential
service to clients who are experiencing problems related to alcohol,
drugs or gambling. NECA is committed to its central aim: the reduction
of physical, psychological or social harm resulting from an individuals
own alcohol, gambling or drug use, or from someone else’s
uses. NECA believes that this is best achieved by ensuring that
people have the information, support and skills necessary to make
an
informed choice about their lifestyle. The service is offered to
men and women, aged 19 and over. Services are offered predominantly
from the Gateshead centre, with a number of community venues also
being utilised as required. NECA’s philosophy of care is based
on a harm reduction model accepting that many clients will continue
to use a range of substances and that a realistic aim of in intervention
is to encourage healthier lifestyle choices. Therefore the goal
of treatment many be either abstinence or a reduction of harmful
behaviour dependant on the needs of the client.
