NERAF Support and other help groups

Drinking is fine in moderation. But what do you do when its running and ruining your life? Where do you go? How do you and your loved ones get your lives back on track?

NERAF is a registered charity established to help you to do this. We offer support groups and a one to one mentoring service and are ran by people previously affected by alcohol misuse. Whether you just want a cuppa and a chat, or feel you need support with other problems such as debt, filling in forms, just call in on us.

NERAF works on the ethos of peer support where we can help each other because we have been through what you are going through now.

Daily alcohol support in Tyne & Wear

NERAF is an independent peer support charity for people recovering from, wishing to recover from, or suspecting they may have an alcohol misuse problem and their families and friends.

The South of Tyne and Wear (SoTW) Carers’ Network

Funded by NHS SoTW, First Contact Clinical launched the new SoTW Carers’ Network on March 30th in Sunderland. Since the launch, both carers and professionals have worked together as Network members to create a vision for the network and are currently developing an action plan for change over the next 3 years.

The vision

The SoTW Carers’ network will bring together like-minded individuals throughout Gateshead, South Tyneside and Sunderland to challenge the stigma of substance misuse and provide more services, for more carers (of drug and alcohol users), in more places than ever before.

Each organisation within the network will consider the needs of all carers throughout SoTW whilst keeping the independence and identity of their own service. We will work together to develop the services that carers want and the evidence suggests they need.

Local, national groups and policy makers will listen to our network. Our opinions will influence their decisions and the way services are delivered. We will embrace the strengths of each organisation and offer innovative solutions to increase the range of services provided in SoTW.

Carers and professionals will receive comprehensive training to improve their awareness and knowledge. We will support and challenge each network member to develop ground-breaking practice which will result in services being more accessible, easier to navigate and recognised as excellent within the field.
